VACANCY - CHARITY SHOP SUPERVISOR
Applications are invited for the position of Charity Shop Supervisor.
Hours: 15 hours per week (including Saturdays)
Annual Salary: £9,738 per annum (£24,336 pro rata)
Contract Type: Permanent
In an exciting new development, Worthing Mencap will be opening a second charity shop in close vicinity to the current South Farm Road shop.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative individual to support our current Shop Supervisor to run our vibrant and well-stocked charity shops. The post holder will be responsible for the setting up, general running and closing of the shop on a Saturday and at other times across the week (to be decided through discussion).
On a day-to-day basis the role holder will:
• supervise volunteers (some of whom will have a learning disability or autism),
• manage/ sort through stock and donations
• cash handling,
• resolve customer queries,
• manage gift aid processes.
On an ongoing basis the post holder will be responsible for:
• the general development of the charity shop,
• keeping safe practices of work for staff and volunteers in the shop,
• volunteer training,
• planning and implementing shop themes, based on yearly calendar i.e. Christmas, Halloween etc
• maintaining a well presented, tidy and clean shop

VACANCY - VOLUNTEER CO-ORDINATOR
Applications are invited for the position of Volunteer Co-ordinator.
Hours: 15 hours per week (including Saturdays)
Annual Salary: £9,738 per annum – £11,528 per annum, dependent on experience.
Contract Type: Permanent
We are looking for a passionate and driven individual to develop and co-ordinate our volunteer experience. As a local charity, we depend on volunteers giving their time to help us run activities and support our fundraising. Worthing Mencap has a strong base of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers that support the various functions of the charity.
The successful candidate will focus on recruiting, retaining and supporting volunteers across the charity.
Our typical volunteer roles are:
• Charity shop volunteer
• Buddys volunteer (café work / helping trainees working in the café)
• Activity club volunteer – social activities, sports and exercise activities
• Event volunteers – at our annual sport and fun day, Christmas, Spring and Summer Fayres.

Volunteer Co-Ordinator Job Description and Person Specification

VACANCY - CLUB CO-ORDINATOR – SATURDAY CLUB
Applications are invited for the position of Club Co-ordinator – Saturday Club.
Hours: 6 hours – Saturdays 9:30am – 3:30pm
Annual Salary: £14.78 per hour
Contract Type: Sessional (paid for the sessions worked)
We are expanding our team of Club Co-ordinators, with the role holder taking on the responsibility of running our new Saturday club for adults with a learning disability or autism. We are recruiting two Saturday Club Co-ordinators to work together in running a fun and sociable day for our beneficiaries at the weekend.
The role holder(s) will be responsible for being the support and safeguarding lead at the session, collecting participant’s subs, keeping a register of participants, welcoming new participants, whilst ensuring everyone’s enjoyment and safety at the club. The role holder will act as an ambassador for Worthing Mencap in the community, promoting Worthing Mencap’s mission, vision and values.
The club will take place from 10am – 3pm on a Saturday, using Buddys as a base but venturing out into the community to take part in various pre- scheduled activities for example: cinema, mini golf, museum visits, attending community events.
The role holder will contribute to planning the schedule of activities in advance so that group members and families can plan their attendance.
The focus of this club is to provide adults with a learning disability or autism the opportunity to see friends and engage in the community at the weekends with shared group support. The group will vary in size depending on the planned activities. The group will use public transport to access the community. Participants will bring their own 1-1 support if required.

December 2024 - Aviva Community Grant

23 November 2024 - Annual Worthing Mencap Christmas Fayre
What a fantastic morning with lots of cheer and Christmas spirit.
Thank you to everyone that braved the elements and came along!
Thanks to Mrs Claus for popping in, Worthing & Adur Town Crier – Bob Smytherman for getting the show on the road and Jenna Hall for getting us singing and dancing once again.
A huge well done to our Worthing Mencap & Buddys Music Makers who performed, after preparing for the last 10 weeks. You were rockstars!!

September 2024 - Miniature Trains Charity Day
A huge thank you to Worthing and District Society of Model Engineers who recently held a charity day and kindly chose us as their chosen charity
We were lucky enough to dodge the rain and much fun was had by all with lots of happy faces, young and old.
